KP Mohanan under fire at SJ(D) state meet

KOZHIKODE: Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister K P Mohanan has come in for severe criticism from the party leaders in the state council meeting of the Socialist Janata (Democratic) for inaction and corruption in the department.
According to party sources, leaders expressed their utter disappointment against the lone minister of the party in the State Cabinet and sought his resignation as his performance was below par.
The criticism comes on the occasion of the first anniversary of the UDF government. Corruption allegations revolving around the minister’s office was the major issue raised by the leaders. Referring to allegations of corruption, they pointed out that certain officials in the minister’s office were minting money misusing power.
Some senior leaders also said that even after one year, the minister had completely failed to learn about the functioning of agriculture and animal husbandry departments. Meanwhile, a few leaders are of the opinion that it was a planned attack by a section of senior SJ(D) leaders, who have certain vested interests. “The minister was targeted in the meeting as part of their plan to oust him.
The attempt was to cover up the failure of the party state leadership in taking up people’s issues. The party cannot survive only by attacking CPM leader Pinarayi Vijayan,” a senior leader told. Meanwhile, when contacted, Minister K P Mohanan denied the allegations about a planned attack against him in the meeting. “The committee discussed several issues and there was a mixed response about the governance,” he said.
