Neyyattinkara By Poll Results: Achuthanandan and Chandy confident of winning bypoll

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The leaders of the ruling UDF and the opposition LDF on Wednesday claimed that their respective fronts would register a thumping win in Neyyattinkara bypoll.

During the post-cabinet press meet, chief minister Oommen Chandy said he was confident of UDF staging a victory similar to that at Piravom in Neyyattinkara. Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan, in a press release, said people of Neyyattinkara would register their verdict over the misrule of the UDF and its stinking politics.

"We will win for sure. It will be a repeat of Piravom," said Chandy. He repeated that the bypoll, like any other poll, would be an appraisal of the performance of the UDF government. The Neyyattinkara bypoll is happening soon after the completion of one year in office of the UDF government. "As the leader of the government, I am fully satisfied with the performance during the first year. Now, it is the people who have to assess us. In Piravom, we witnessed that," said Chandy.According to Chandy, the UDF government received support from all quarters, including from those in the Opposition, in the first year. "The slogan we have put forth - development and care - has been well received by all," he said.

However, Chandy's arguments were refuted by V S Achuthanandan in a press release issued here on Wednesday. "The govt celebrates its first anniversary on the backdrop of a bypoll it has thrust upon the voters in Neyyattinkara. The electorate will give its verdict against the stinking politics propagated by the UDF," said Achuthanandan.
