VS slams petrol price hike

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan has flayed the rise in the price of petrol and called for mass protests cutting across political lines against the exorbitant hike.
He blamed the Centre for making the life of people miserable and alleged that the Centre was only keen to protect the interests of oil companies.
Calling for a full roll back on the price hike, Achuthanandan also called upon the electorate in Neyyatinkara segment, which is going to a bypoll shortly, to use their voting rights to protest against the anti-people decisions of the Centre. CPI state secretary Pannyan Raveendran  said that there was no justification for the price rise which would only create social unrest. The price rise and other anti-people measures are the result of neo-liberal policies followed by the Centre during the past two decades.
The CPI will observe Thursday as protest day and rallies will be taken out in this connection, he said. The state committees of RSP, AITUC,DYFI and SFI have also protested against the price hike.
The Left outfits have given a call for protests on Thursday.
