Sunday 08 May 2011: The Congress(S) faction led by N V Pradeep Kumar will merge with the Indian National Congress tomorrow. The merger meeting will be held at 11 a.m. at Jama’at hall, Palayam, here. Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy and KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala will welcome Pradeep Kumar and followers to the Congress.
“We are returning to our mother organisation after a gap of 30 years. Over these years, there have been a number of positive transformations in the Congress. Strengthening of inner party democracy, sharing of power and the guts shown to nail even tall leaders when corruption charges were levelled showed that Congress is the only party that can lead our country in the right direction,’’ Pradeep Kumar told reporters here on Saturday.
“In contrast, the CPM is intolerant to even an investigation against its leader in a corruption case,’’ he said.
Coming down heavily on Minister Kadannappally Ramachandran, his former leader, Pradeep said the party - Congress(S) - did not exist now. “The Election Commission has derecognised it. With majority of leaders quitting the party, there is no such thing called Congress(S) now,’’ he said.
