Ambalapuzha Ramavarma dies
KOTTAYAM: Noted writer and Kathakali critic Prof Ambalapuzha Ramavarma (87) died here Sunday. He was undergoing treatment for heart ailments for quite some time. His body will be cremated at the premises of his house Monday evening at 3 pm. His wife Sathy Bai of Krishnapuram Kuttiyil Kovilakam had predeceased.
He leaves behind his children Ramani Bai (Dhanalakshmi Bank, Cherthala), Raja Sreekumar Varma (Aryagayathri Publications, Kottayam), Madhu Kumar (DC Books, Kottayam) and Geetha Bai (late).
He began his official life by working as a lecturer in Aluva U C College. He had also served as the head of the Malayalam department in Kottayam CMS College.
He had bagged the MKK Nair award for Kathakali, Gurupuja Puraskaram of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy.
He had written almost 40 books.
