KOCHI: Kerala Hotel & Restaurant Association will close down their business establishments Friday in protest against the recent hike in the price of commercial LPG.
Informing this at a news conference here, Association General Secretary Jose Mohan said that an emergency meeting of the association held here had decided to pull down the shutters of hotels across the state from 0600 hrs to 1800 hrs, as a token protest against the unjustified hike of commercial LPG.
Stating that the hike was unwanted and could not be justified, the association demanded immediate withdrawal of the hike, he said.
Pointing out that even a small restaurant owner needed to spend at least three cylinders, Jose said the hike would badly affect them as they would have to spend additional Rs 1200 per day, which according to him would ultimately force them to pull down shutters permanently.
Indicating that there was no immediate plan of hiking the price of food in hotels as it would affect the common man following the hike in price of LPG, he warned that the association would opt other strong ways of agitations, if the government failed to withdraw the hike.
Though there were about 1.25 lakh hotels across the state, many of them were on the verge of closing down because of serious financial problems, he added.
