‎Thiruvananthapuram: Political parties, including the Congress and CPM, have come out against the move to remove the names of 1921 Malabar martyrs from the Dictionary of Indian Freedom Fighters. Congress leaders K Sudhakaran Ramesh Chennithala and Vm Sudheeran, including A Vijayaraghavan and Speaker Mb Rajesh from the CPM, had openly protested against the central government's move.‎

The list of freedom fighters released by the Kerala government in 1975 with the incarnation of Chief Minister C Achuthamenon also does not name The Malabar riot leaders Warian Kunna or Ali Muslims. They were expelled from the list by writing a verdict saying that the government headed by Congress-CPM-Muslim League leaders K Karunakaran, Achyutamenon and Ch Mohammad Koya was not freedom fighters.‎

‎The present leaders of the same parties, Sudhakaran, Vijayaraghavan and Kunikutty, portray communal rioters as freedom fighters. In a book written by CPM leader EMS Nambarapad on the freedom struggle, neither Warian Kunna nor Ali Muslim said he was a freedom fighter. But history has it that EMS left home fearing riots, crossed Bharathapuzha and took shelter in his house near Kodungallur. Congress leaders K Madhavan Nair, K P Keshavamenon and Kelappaji have said that what took place in Malabar was communal violence. Kummanam said that contrary to the earlier stand of their leaders, Sudhakaran and Vijayaraghavan are now defending the riots only for Muslim communal appeasement.‎

Distorting historical realities and correcting positions is a regular programme of Congress-CPM leaders for ages.
