‎First dose of vaccine for all over 18s by the end of September; Veena George‎

Thiruvananthapuram; Health Minister Veena George said the maximum number of people would be vaccinated in the face of rising covid in the state. By the end of September, it aims to give the first dose of vaccine to all over 18 years of age. For this purpose, the Minister said that vaccination plan will be prepared in the districts and vaccination yajna will be strengthened. The number of inspections in the state will be increased. The number of daily tests will be brought to 2 lakhs. At an emergency meeting of the Health Department to assess the preparations for combating the increase in the number of covid patients.‎


‎Special care will be taken to prevent delays in the distribution of the vaccine. The shortage of syringes is also being addressed. The Centre has said that 1.11 crore doses of vaccine will be given to the state. More vaccine will be made available as soon as possible, the Minister said.‎


‎After Onam, the number of covid patients is likely to increase again. Therefor, hospitals should be set up to deal with any situation, the Minister said. It is important to reduce the death rate to a maximum, even if the disease intensity decreases. Ensure that those on home isolation follow the guidelines accurately. The Health Minister also suggested that those with serious diseases in home isolation should be identified and expert treatment ensured.‎

‎It has been directed to increase the covid testing to the maximum extent possible. If any of the public function participants get sick, the entire name should be checked. People with symptoms and those in contact must have a covid test. There should be no self-treatment. The meeting assessed the systems being set up in hospitals in view of the third wave. Each district is equipped with hospital beds, oxygen-equipped beds, ICUs and ventilators in advance of the increase in the number of covid patients. Special importance will be given to the treatment of children by setting up paediatric wards and ICU. Oxygen availability has been ensured. The Minister said that non-covid treatment is also of importance.‎
