Delhi: Fuel prices remained unchanged for the 24th consecutive day in the country. According to state-owned fuel companies, record prices in petrol and diesel prices are continuing in the country. According to the last price hike, a litre of petrol is priced close to Rs 102 in Delhi. According to the Indian Oil Corporation, the price of a litre of diesel is Rs 89.87. Petrol and diesel prices in all major cities remain high if international crude oil prices have fallen sharply.
In Mumbai, petrol costs Rs 107.83 per litre and diesel Rs 97.45 per litre. On May 29, Mumbai has become the first metro city where petrol prices crossed 100 per litre. Meanwhile, petrol continues at Rs 102.49 per litre and diesel at Rs 94.39 in Chennai. In Kolkata, fuel rates remained unchanged, with petrol priced at Rs 102.08 per litre and diesel at Rs 93.02 per litre.
Petrol and diesel rates in major cities of India: Fuel rates have risen 41 times since assembly elections in states like West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and union territories. Petrol prices have gone up by Rs 11.44 per litre and diesel by Rs 9.14 during this period. States like Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are at an all-time high even as prices of petrol and diesel have remained unchanged for more than three weeks. The rate of petrol and diesel varies from state to state depending on value added tax and commodity rates. Rajasthan imposes the highest VAT in the country as per reports. Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are close behind.
