Today, it was confirmed that 132 deaths in recent days were caused by Covid-19. This brought the total death toll to 20,673. The daily test positivity rate (TPR) is 16.74 per cent. Currently, the number of active cases continues to exceed 2 lakh.‎

‎According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, more than half of the national number of active cases comes from Kelam. 22,563 people who were being treated for the disease have recovered today. With this, 2,09,493 people have been diagnosed with the disease and are now being treated. 37,96,317 people have so far recovered from Covid.‎

‎There are now 5,39,097 people under observation in various districts of the state. Of these, 5,08,271 are under observation in house/institutional quarantine and 30,826 in hospitals. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan today announced that 2641 people have been newly admitted to the hospital.‎

‎According to figures as of Sunday, more than 190,000 cases and more than 1,000 deaths have been reported from the state in the last seven days. In addition, the total number of cases crossed 40 lakhs and the death toll crossed 20,000. More than 30,000 cases were reported on all four days of the week. The smallest number was 13,383 reported on Monday, when the case was reported above 24,000 in six days.‎

‎Hen and Malapuram remain the worst affected districts with 31,591 and 30,839 active cases. Eranakulam (27,131 active cases) and Thrissur (16,335 active cases) are close behind. There are now 13,408 active cases in the capital, Thiruvananthapuram.‎ ‎Experts point out that the latest momentum in the state is due to concessions in the lead-up to the Onam celebrations. Last week, the Pinarayi Vijayan-led government announced a relaxation in the weekend lockdown on the occasion of Onam. Health Minister Veena George had recently said that violations of home quarantine standards had also contributed to the increase. The Minister also pointed out that a recent study by the Health Department had pointed out that 35 per cent of the people in the state were infected from home.‎ ‎Veena George had earlier in the day informed that she had been ordered to conduct the Covid 19 Ciro Privileges Study in the state. The Ciro Surveillance Study is being conducted to find out how many people have been able to achieve Covid 19 immunity through vaccination and disease. It is also possible to understand how many more people are likely to get the disease. This will further strengthen the covid resistance and make those who develop the disease more safe, the Minister added.‎ ‎The vaccination process is also being carried out in an active manner in the state. The Minister also said that at least 71 per cent of the vaccine-eligible population has been injected with at least one dose of the vaccine. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has also informed that an expert committee is meeting on September 1 to look into and assess the new situation, even though night curfew and weekend lockdown have been restored to prevent further spread of the disease.‎
