Attack on pilgrims: 4 youths held

The Ranni police have arrested three youths on Wednesday in connection with the attack on a group of Sabarimala pilgrims from Chennai at Koonamkara near Perinad on Tuesday afternoon.


According to the police, the arrested youths, Jerrin John Abraham, 24, of Kanjirathamala, Mahesh Gopi, 23, of Chellakkad, Rogin Sam, 24, of Madhathumpady, and Robin Thomas, 23, of Manakkayam, were released on bail, later, in the evening.


The police have also taken the car reportedly used by the youths to intercept the vehicle carrying the pilgrims.


A petition filed by the pilgrims before the Chengannur police station on Tuesday says that they were intercepted and attacked by car-borne unidentified youths on their return from Sabarimala at Koonamkara, the police said.


The police have chased the registration number of the car provided by the pilgrims, leading to the arrest, later, on Wednesday.
