THODUPZHA: Land sharks have been plundering the banks of the Thodupuzha river to build resorts. Though land filling is rampant in Kanjar region, the police have dismissed such reports as baseless. People in Kanjar area allege that the owners of the resorts built on either side of the Thodupuzha river had allegedly encroached on the river and reclaimed its banks.
The residents said the river would meet an unnatural death if the trend continues.
However, senior police officials at Kanjar police station said they have not received any complaint in this regard.Meanwhile, the Revenue Department officials impounded a tipper lorry used to transport soil for filling paddy fields in Thodupuzha the other day.
The Revenue team led by deputy tahasildar V E Abbas seized the vehicle and filed a case against its owner.
The team also seized three tipper lorries and a JCB in Purapuzha village. The Revenue Department has advised people to remain alert against such illegal land filling and inform the officials about it. Information can be passed on to the additional tahasildar at 222503.
