KOCHI: At a time when the police are running on tighter schedules by the day and their duties range from tracking criminals to monitor people dumping garbage in the open, a policeman managed to take time off his busy schedule and pursue what he loves, click photographs which are now being exhibited at Darbar Hall here.
Soma Kumaran from Cheruthoni in Idukki district, is the driver of the Chief Justice’s pilot vehicle. But after his duty hours, policeman Somakumaran turns into photographer. He photographs traditional dance ‘Kathakali’ performances. Somakumaran developed his love for camera and pictures at a very young age and started clicking pictures when he was 16-year-old.
However, the situations and circumstances made him sideline his passion and take up a job to sustain his family and deal with financial burdens. It took him 25 years and persuasion of his seniors to pick a camera all over again. On seeing his works the City Police Commissioner M R Ajithkumar asked him to exhibit his photographs.
This encouraged him to put up an exhibition at Darbar Hall at his own expense. The exhibition will be on till April 23. It was inaugurated by M R Ajithkumar, City Police Commissioner of Kochi.
