Silver seized from car

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Silver ornaments weighing 37.245 kg were seized from a car by the Excise officials during a routine checking of vehicles at the Amaravila check-post near the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. A team led by Excise Inspector K Abilash seized the silver ornaments from a private car bearing Maharashtra registration. The car driver tried to evade the officials but the vehicle was intercepted and taken into custody soon. The ornaments, worth Rs 19 lakhs, have been handed over to the Sales Tax Department, according to the Assistant Excise Commissioner, Thiruvananthapuram.
