Bail for P Jayarajan in Shukkoor murder case


KOCHI: The Kerala High Court Monday granted strict conditional bail to CPM Kannur district secretary P Jayarajan, 32nd accused in in the Abdul Shukkoor murder case. Jayarajan is at present lodged in the Kannur Central Jail after his arrest on August 1. T V Rajesh MLA, 33rd accused in the case, was granted bail earlier.

The court has directed Jayarajan to furnish a bond of Rs 25,000 and two sureties for the like amount. The court said bail is being granted to Jayarajan as the investigation in the case has been completed and charge sheet filed. The court also considered the demand of M K Damodaran, (counsel of Jayarajan), seeking bail taking into account his health condition.

Abdul Shukoor, an activist of the Muslim League was murdered allegedly by CPI (M) activists at Keezhara near Kannavam, Kannur in February 2012.

He has been charged with IPC Section 118 (concealing design to commit offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life). Police claimed that some of the prominent CPI (M) leaders in the district were aware of the circumstances of the murder and they had sought to harbour the culprits.
