Bomb hoax spoils cops’ Onam

Unlike others, the policemen of Kalamasserry station as well as members of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) could not enjoy the ‘Onasadhya’ following a fake bomb scare in the Kalamassery area on Wednesday afternoon.

A fake phone call about a high-capacity bomb in Kalamassery spoiled the Onam for the policemen.

Following the call, the police spotted the place where the ‘bomb’ was planted.

It was kept in a plot covered with weeds near the HMT Guest House and Cochin Cooperative Medical College. “After reaching the spot we spotted the bomb and called the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad. However, the country-made bomb which was kept in an isolated place did not have any explosives in it.

“We also conducted search in the nearby places, but could not recover anything. It seems that the attempt was to spread scare during the Onam celebrations,” said a Police official.

Tommy Sebastian, Assistant Commissioner, Special Branch, said the police would trace the phone call and book the person behind it. “We have started an inquiry to identify the person behind this and he will be arrested soon,” the Assistant Commissioner added.
