I-Day hijack alert: High security in airports


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Visitors will not be permitted in terminal buildings and the operational area of the airports in the state till August 20 following a countrywide alert by the Civil Aviation authorities for increades security measures

Intelligence inputs indicating a terrorist plan to hijack a domestic flight around Independence Day makes it necessary for the authorities observe with the security parameters laid out by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security strictly.

A secondary ladder checkpoint, an extra security filter introduced during high alerts, for frisking passengers boarding flights will be introduced in addition to the security check at the main gate and the security hold area by the Aviation Security Group (ASG) of the Central Industrial Security Force.

Security personnel of the airlines will also carry out the check at the secondary point in coordination with the ASG.

Bomb detection and dog squads at the airports have been placed under high alert.
