Kerala Sahitya Akademi Awards announced
The Kerala Sahitya Akademi awards and endowments for 2011 have been announced.
Akademi president Perumbadavam Sreedharan told reporters here on Wednesday that the executive general council meeting had decided the award in each category.
The awards in each category carry a cash prize of Rs 25,000, a citation and a plaque.
Subhash Chandran’s ‘Manushyanu Oremukham’ has been selected for the best novel category while Kureeppuzha Sreekumar’s Keezhalan has been selected as the best poetry.
The awards in the other categories are as follows: Drama: Balasubramanyam (Cholliyattam); Short-story: U K Kumaran (Polisukarante Penmakkal); Literary criticism: B Rajeevan (Vakkukalum Vasthukkalum); Scholarly literature: L S Rajagopalan (Eenavum Thalavum); Biography/autobiography: K R Gowri Amma ; Travelogue: T N Gopakumar (Volga Tharangangal); Translation: K B Prasannakumar; Children’s literature: K Radhakrishnan (Gandhijiyude Athmakatha Kuttikalkku) and humour: Lalithambika (Kaliyum Karyavum).
Endowments
Linguistics and Study of Science: Dr N K Mary (Malayala Vyakarana Sidhanthangal) ;Essay: S Gopalakrishnan (Kathapole Chilathu Sambavikkumbol); Vaidhika Sahithyam; Prof Thuravoor Viswambaran (Mahabharatha Paryadanam Bharathadarsanam: Punarvayana); Poetry: Aryambika (Thoniyapoloru Puzha); Short story collection:Dhanya Raj (Pachayude Albam); Scientific literature: Dr Aaniyil Tharakan (Bharatheeya Darsanam English Kavithayil).
According to the Akademi president, the awards will be presented to them at a function to be held as part of the Akademi’s annual day celebration in August.
