Krishna Iyer stresses need to develop solar, wind energy projects

Justice V R Krishna Iyer has appealed to the scientists and the authorities in the state to make earnest efforts to develop the sources of sustainable energy to avoid a power crisis in the context monsoon failure. “A creative search for alternate sources of power is urgent”, he said in a press statement.

“The shortage of rainfall has caused a drastic fall in generating hydel power. We are facing an energy calamity and this will surely affect our agriculture and industry,” he said. The obvious solution to avert this catastrophe is solar power and wind power, both of which are abundant in our country. Therefore, the creative scientific talent of the nation must be geared towards developing these potential sources of energy, he said.

He praised the efforts of Tamil Nadu for its  initiatives in the area of wind power and that of Gujarat in solar power.“The solar power revolution in Gujarat should be an inspiration to Kerala, he said.

“The state must make use of the wind power in the mountains, valleys and the long coastline. Our solar resource is unlimited. I appeal to the state government to make efforts to tap these sources to achieve surplus power in the state and avoid an energy crisis in the state, Iyer said.
