Nurses’ strike ends in Kothamangalam

ALUVA: The 117-day strike observed by the nurses’ of Mar Baselios Hospital, Kothamangalam, ended here on Sunday. The strike was withdrawn after talks held between the representatives of the management, Labour Minister Shibu Baby John and Health Minister V S Sivakumar.

Minister Shibu Baby John said minimum wages would be paid to nurses and a three-shift system will be introduced. A panel will be formed to make a study on the nurse-patient ratio. The panel will submit a report in a month.

Meantime, in reply to a question, he said the suggestions of Balaraman committee, who made a study on the problems of nurses, cannot be executed at one go.
