Panel formed for atrocities against women

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A panel has been formed to submit a report regarding the steps taken for the rehabilitation of unwed mothers in Wayanad in the state. This decision was taken at the meeting of Vigilance and Monitoring Committee, formed to look into the atrocities against SC/ST. The meeting was convened by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. The Committee members are Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Tourism Minister AP Anil Kumar and Minister for Welfare of Scheduled Tribes P K Jayalakshmi.

The panel would submit its report within a month after carrying out discussions with MLAs and other elected representatives of the district. Decision has been taken to hand over Rs 1 lakh to the family of Soumya who was killed during a train journey as per POA Act apart from the solatium granted by the Government. More posts will be sanctioned in the forensic labs in Thrissur and Kannur to avoid the delay on getting lab reports corresponding to the cases registered against atrocities faced by SC/ST. It has also been decided to enquire into the cases related to exploitation of those workers who migrate to Karnataka from Wayanad.
