Suicide threat: Health condition of nurses deteriorate

KOCHI: The health condition of the three nurses of Mar Baselious Hospital in Kothamangalam who threatened to commit suicide by jumping off the hospital on Wednesday has worsened.

Despite their deteriorating health, they are not ready to be shifted to the hospital unless their demands are considered.

Three nurses namely Anu, Divya and Priya, had positioned themselves on the terrace since Wednesday morning demanding an immediate solution to their 114-day old strike.

Top officials of the police, district administration and labour department are camping at the site.

The nurses had withdrawn their suicide threat  around 7.30 pm on Wednesday after Ernakulam  RDO S Shanavas ordered the hospital management to implement the compromise formula agreed by them earlier but revived the threat agitation late last night after the hospital management declined to execute the  RDO's order.

A hartal is being observed in Kothamangalam on Thursday.

Government-mediated talks between the representatives of the union of striking nurses and hospital management had not yielded any result.

The Labour Minister Shibu Baby John himself had talked to the representatives over phone.

Representative of the hospital management, Shibu Kuriakose, said that the nurses are trying to spread rumours against the hospital through the media.
