Name P J Kurien as accused, says Suryanelli victim


KOTTAYAM: The letter sent by Suryanelli victim seeking the inclusion of P J Kurien, Rajya Sabha deputy chairman, as an accused in the case, has been publicized. She sent the letter to the Supreme Court counsel, who appeared for the case on January 29. The Supreme Court had acquitted Kurien in the case earlier.

The letter was publicized soon after the Supreme Court set aside the Kerala High verdict acquitting the 34 accused in the case. The victim’s parents had the other doubted the involvement of Kurien in the case. They said that he escaped with police influence. 

The letter says that the victim is firm on her allegation that Kurien had sexually abused her at the guest house in Kumily. Her statement was recorder after she filed a private litigation against him in the Peerumedu court.

Though he was asked to appear before the court, he failed to do so and no offence was charged on him by the investigating officials. He escaped influencing the police and even got a favourable verdict from the Supreme Court.
