NSS lashes out at Chandy, pitches for Chennithala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Nair Service Society (NSS) on Sunday accused the Oommen Chandy-led UDF government of "upsetting the communal balance" in governance and made a strong pitch for installing KPCC chief Ramesh Chennithala in a key position at the ministry.

Addressing at 'Nair Mahasammelanam' organised here by NSS, its General Secretary G. Sukumaran Nair alleged that the Congress leadership went back on the promises it made to the outfit before the 2011 assembly polls.

"The Congress leadership had given a word to the NSS that Chennithala would be given a key position in the ministry. Now, Chandy says a cabinet reshuffle is not on the cards. How can he take such a unilateral stand?" he asked.

Nair said the NSS would take up this issue with the Congress high command if the chief minister continued to ignore its demands.
Holding that the majority community had been getting a raw deal from the government, Nair said the ministry had not bothered to follow a "common policy approach" in education sector satisfactory to all communities.

NSS, which has a network of grass-root level units called "Karayogam" across the state, has several educational institutions under its management including aided colleges.

For quite some time, NSS has been complaining that the interests of the majority community had been neglected by the Education Department held by Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) in the ministry.
