Participatory Pension: Govt Employees’ strike withdrawn

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The ongoing strike called by pro-Left government employees and teachers against the participatory pension was withdrawn on Monday early morning at 2 am, after consensus was reached during separate meetings with Minister K.M. Mani and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

The teachers have agreed to co-operate with the 53rd State School Festival which commences today in Malappuram.

The participatory pension will be implemented from April 1 onwards. Oommen Chandy told media persons after the meeting that if employees find any problem with the new scheme they can inform him and necessary steps will be taken to examine it.

The parliamentary standing committee has recommended that minimum pension should be ensured from the income of Employees Provident Fund. Chandy assured the employees that once the renewed pension bill becomes law the assessment return of the employees will be considered.

Those employees who entered the service up to 31 March 2013 will get the existing statutory pension.
