Private tankers strike work

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A group of tanker lorry owners, that carry drinking water meant for the capital city on Saturday night declared a snap strike for Sunday following the district administration’s directive to introduce certain restrictions on the supply of water from the Water Authority.

The water supply to private hospitals, flats, hotels and other institutions was disrupted.

A minor road accident involving an autorickshaw and tanker lorry had caused a law and order issue near Aruvikkara dam on Friday. A protest meeting in connection with the incident was held at Venmani near Aruvikkara on Saturday.

The authorities say that the strike is part of lorry owners’ move to increase water price.

Meantime, the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) has doubled the distress of the residents by announcing that water supply will be disrupted from Sunday noon to Monday noon.
