DYFI activist brutally beaten up for showing black flag against CM

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A DYFI activist was brutally beaten up by policemen while he was waving black flag against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Agriculture Minister K P Mohanan, while taking part in the protest march staged by DYFI volunteers on Wednesday.

Jayaprasad (35) was brutally beaten up by using lathi. He was punched in his stomach. The Poonthura Grade SI Vijayadas kicked Jayaprasad on his abdomen many times. Vijayadas has been suspended from service following this.

Seriously injured Jayaprasad has been admitted to Medical College Hospital here.

The incident happened when Oommen Chandy and K P Mohan arrived for the inauguration of the district storage centre of the state-owned horticulture development corporation, Horticorp at Anayara here. DYFI volunteers waved black flags at the ministers on the highway and threw eggs at their convoys.

The protestors did not spare the local MLA M.A. Wahid, who was also greeted with a black flag protest. The protestors also blocked the road, stopping the ministerial convoys. It was then that the police resorted to lathicharge.

Protest march in front of SI’s house

Following the incident, CPI (M) activists marched towards the house of SI Vijayadas at Kovalam. During the protest march, a stone was pelted at a policeman from Vizhinjam CI Office.

The protestors were stopped by policemen 200 metres away from Vijayadas’ house.
