Setback in poll unexpected, says Kodiyeri

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The electoral defeat in Kerala was unexpected, said CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. The BJP's victory at the national level hints that the country is all set to face a great tragedy, he said while talking to the media soon after the poll results came.

Kodiyeri said, “If any mistakes have happened from our side, we are ready to take necessary steps to correct it. This defeat is temporary. Other things will be forgotten when a wave comes. The campaign of the LDF was to end the BJP rule and this favoured the Congress in Kerala. The party state committee will soon evaluate the basic reasons of this defeat.”

Though the congress suffered severe setback in other states of the country, getting 19 seats in Kerala is a relief for them. KPCC chief Mullappally Ramachandran had mentioned that they will win all the 20 seats but lost Alappuzha. Though they made gains in CPM’s strong fortresses in Alappuzha, the LDF’s leap in opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala’s constituency is a setback for them.

CPM will not protect goons, says Kodiyeri

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM will not protect the goons who indulge in goonda activities, sad party state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Nobody in the party is engaged in such activities. The opposition gets nervous when they hear about Kannur, he told reporters here. He made the statement soon after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan made a statement in the assembly that goons would not be protected.

Vigilance director Jacob Thomas just expressed his doubt that his phone is being tapped. Allegations can be levelled against anybody. They are just allegations till it is proved. Thomas is an official is against corruption, pointed Kodiyeri.

The court verdict against former chief minister Oommen Chandy in the solar case has proved right the allegations levelled by the LDF. His stand that his version was not heard is not suitable for his post.

The reporters should be given a situation to work freely. Those who attack reporters should be seen as criminals. A section of the advocates work against the society, he said.

RSS-BJP political killings, a challenge for peaceful life, says Kodiyeri

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said the political killings being carried out by the RSS and BJP “under the shelter” of Central rule is a challenge to peaceful life of the people. The gruesome murder of CPM Kannur Paduvilai local committee member Mohanan is an unpardonable crime.

Mohan, a toddy shop worker, was allegedly murdered by a gang of RSS men, while we was inside the shop, Valankichalil near Pinarayi.

“By making unilateral attacks, the BJP and RSS are playing with the fire. In a time span of 4 months, five CPM workers were killed by the RSS. In the last two weeks, four CPM workers were heinously attacked. These very saffron brigades are shouting that it is the CPM workers who are unleashing attack,” he said.

Kodiyeri also made an appeal in his statement to peace-lovers to come forward to protest against the political killings in a democratic manner.

Distribution of Welfare pension: Efforts, alertness needed, says Kodiyeri

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM General Secretary Kodyeri Balakrishnan has said a coordinated effort with alertness is required to make LDF’s pilot project of delivering social welfare pension including arrears and hiked amount at the homes of eligible person, before Onam.

“Social activists, local body representatives, officials in cooperative sectors should contribute towards making this endeavour a big success. The target is to handover pension to 32 lakh persons. They will be getting arrears of minimum 11 months. In some cases, arrears of more than one year will be given. Thus some may be getting up to Rs 25000. In total, Rs 3200 crore will be distributed as Welfare pension,” he said.

Kodiyeri explained that the social welfare pension was being given not as a charity but as the right of the people. It would be distributed in transparent manner and without any political bias. “The cooperative banks have been entrusted with the job of delivering the pension at beneficiaries’ homes. In the State, 14 district cooperative banks will look after the pension distribution. Cooperative credit banks will deliver the pension at houses. Among them administrative committees in about 900 banks are led by the LDF, while 581 banks are under the UDF. There are also banks under BJP administration. Except one, all district cooperative banks are under UDF administration. From this, it becomes clear that the LDF is not politically biased in pension distribution,” he said.

Attempt to create rift between CPM and CPI, says Kodiyeri

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan intervenes in the verbal spat between M Swaraj and the CPI. In his Facebook post, he said the CPM and the CPI are working unitedly and the result for this unity was witnessed in the recent assembly polls.

The situation at present is to work more unitedly. Some centres are trying to create a rift between the two. Everyone will understand why this is for. If there are any differences of opinion between the two, there is a situation to sort it out. There is no need to air it openly.

Opportunistic stand is not beneficial for the growth of the Left Front and it is understood from the incident which happened after the split of the communist party in 1964. The CPI now accepts the stand supporting emergency at that time was not right. There are no issues between the party in the all India and state levels. An attempt by vested interests are trying to create rift between the two. However, the CPM is not willing for it, he said.

Attack on Sreenivasan unacceptable, says Kodiyeri

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said attack on Kerala State Higher Secondary Council vice-chairman T P Sreenivasan on the side-lines of Global Education meet at Kovalam is not acceptable. He also urged the SFI to take action against SFI District vice-president J S Sharath, who slapped the former diplomat.

At a press conference here on Saturday, Kodiyeri said the government is making all moves to privatise the education sector. The protest against this was what that was seen at Kovalam.
“All arrangements had been made for the safe exit of persons who had gone to attend the education meet. But, Srinivasan walked into the agitating crowd of SFI activist, who was provoked by his presence. Though he had provoked the activists, the CPM stand is that it is a wrong thing to beat a person. This incident had reduced the vigour of the protest and it gave an undesired result,” Kodiyeri said.

CM should resign immediately, says Kodiyeri

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM State Secretary Kodyeri Balakrishnan has said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy should not wait even for a second to resign, if he has the moral rightness.

“Cases should be charged against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Minister Aryadan Muhammed as per Prevention of Corruption Act,” Kodiyeri said at a press conference here on Thursday.

“The government’s counsel had pleaded in a Vigilance court not to consider the Public Interest Litigation seeking the court to file a case against the chief minister based on the allegation that he had taken bribe. But, the court rejected the plea. The court observed that at extraordinary situation there will be extraordinary orders. In the light of the court order, the Vigilance should urgently take necessary steps,” Kodiyeri said.

Move to eliminate CPM, says Kodiyeri

KOCHI: The UDF and the RSS are jointly attacking the CPM leaders and activists following the win achieved by the LDF in the local body polls, said CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Talking to reporters in Nedumbassery, he said the home department is trying to impose KAAPA on activists and are trapping them in false cases.

The case against CPM Kannur district secretary P Jayarajan is part of charging false cases against leaders. Through this, the government is under pressure from the RSS. Such anti-democratic moves would be resisted, he said.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is using A N Rajan Babu as a middle man of the RSS, he added. Kodiyeri attacked BJP state chief Kummanam Rajashekaran by saying that he need not teach them on how the CPM should conduct their programmes. If religious groups have any misunderstanding towards the CPM, then it would be rectified and we will not waste any chance for it, he said.

Chandy should step down soon, says Kodiyeri

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  In the wake of the serious allegations levelled by Biju Radhakrishnan, accused in the solar case, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy should step down soon, said CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. He should pave way for the judicial commission to function independently, he said.

Kodiyeri said the chief minister has not been able to give credible explanation on the allegations. The proofs possessed by Biju Radhakrishnan should be confiscated. A probe should be conducted based on the evidences.  Protests would continue in the solar case. The agitational programmes would be drafted by the LDF, he said.

Vellappally should be arrested, says Kodiyeri

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: SNDP yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan should be arrested for his statement creating a sort of communal violence, said CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. His statements on manhole victim Noushad is part of conspiracy to rake up communal violence, he said.

His remark was an insult to all workers who come running to help those involved in accidents. His statement was a call to damage the harmony of the state. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has a tradition of withdrawing a case registered against Praveen Togaida, who tried to harm the harmony of the state. If the government follows the same policy here also, then strong protests would be staged, he said.

The SNDP was formed to circulate the message of Sree Narayana Guru. However, despite the views propagated by Guru, Vellappally, who is trying to create communal polarization, should resign his post and become a RSS propagandist, he said.

VS’ candidature will be decided at election time, says Kodiyeri

KOZHIKODE: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the party should be allowed to choose their candidates. The candidature of opposition leader V S Achuthanandan will be decided during the time of assembly polls, Kodiyeri told media while reacting to CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran’s statement that VS should lead the polls.

Facing the polls after deciding the chief ministerial candidate is not the manner of the CPM. The CPM will decide the chief minister after the polls. In reply to a question, he said the doors are still opened for the Janata Dal (U).

RSS is behind the Samathwa Munnetta Yatra led by SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan. Through this Yatra, the RSS is aiming communal campaigning. The RSS is trying to propagate communal violence, he said.

BJP's anti-corruption stance a farce now, says Kodiyeri

NEW DELHI: CPM State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said that with the BJP declaring its support to tainted former minister K M Mani’s party, its anti-corruption policy has become a farce. This brings out the fact that BJP has two faces,” he told media persons.

“Muraleedharan’s statement shows that BJP would co-operate with any corrupt group. Allowing Mani to continue as the chief of Good Services Tax committee till he resigned as minister is part of the understanding between the BJP and the Kerala Congress. For launching Mani’s book, Union Minister Arun Jaitley himself had come to Kerala. This also is part of a secret agenda,” Kodiyeri said.

The communist leader said the BJP’s policy is to first fight against corruption and then enter into a secret alliance with them. “Muraleedharan should apologise to Yuva Morcha men who had received blows in agitations against Mani,” he added.

‘Amit Shah Operation’ failed, says Kodiyeri

KANNUR: The BJP-SNDP alliance formed to push the CPM to the third position did not get anything they expected, said CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. ‘Amit Shah Operation’ has failed, he pointed out. Many projects of the CPM have attracted the public. The message the polls give us is that such activities and local issues should be taken over and activated, he said.

The people have accepted LDF’s stand in the bar bribery case. Those not aware of Finance Minister KM Mani accepting bribe may have supported his party in Kottayam. However, the people of the state knows everything. The CPM and the LDF jointly campaigned for the polls. Some UDF activists cooperated with the LDF. Kodiyeri asked whether RSP and Janata Dal (U) will rectify their stands after analyzing the defeat.

Party activists of the RSP voted against them. Activists of the Janata Dal are also against the stand of the leadership. A decision on whether those leaving the UDF should be accommodated in the LDF will be taken according to their stand, he said.

2005 will be repeated, says Kodiyeri

KANNUR: The speed of the collapse of the UDF will be high by the end of the local body polls, said CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Finance Minister K M Mani will resign by the end of the polls and the next day the chief minister will put in his papers, he said.

Talking to reporters after casting his vote in the district, he said the LDF won in 13 in the polls held in 14 districts in 2005.  The present situation is favourable for the LDF. This election marks the beginning of a change in the state. The Aruvikkara bypolls favoured the UDF but that doesn’t mean it would favour them this time, he said.

The third front is now itself stillborn. SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan is a liability for the BJP. The poll result would be a tragedy for the third front, he said.

Beef issue: CM should inform protest to PM, says Kodiyeri

ALAPPUZHA: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy should directly meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and convey the protest in connection with the beef served at the Kerala House, said CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan.

The centre’s move to implement the agenda of the RSS is behind this incident, Kodiyeri said while talking at the election programme of the Alappuzha Press Club. This is centre’s challenge towards the state’s federal power and it cannot be accepted at all. The chief minister should uphold the dignity of the state after expressing the state’s protest to Modi, he said.

Decision on who will lead CPM to be taken later, says Kodiyeri

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A decision on who will lead the CPM in the assembly polls will be taken later, said party state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Kodiyeri said CPI national secretariat member C Divakaran has himself explained his statement on opposition leader V S Achuthanandan leading the party.  A discussion on it is not needed now, he told reporters here.

The CPM will never tie-up with the Muslim League. Allegations are voiced towards the CPM in order to hide the relationship between the RSS and the UDF, he said.

CM will compromise with anyone to continue in power, says Kodiyeri

KOZHIKODE: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will compromise with anyone to continue in power, said CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Talking at the press meet, he said all help for the RSS-SNDP alliance is given by the chief minister.

The chief minister has entrusted Rajan Babu, a member of the UDF high powered committee, to formulate the constitution of the party to be floated by the SNDP, he said.

The government’s unwillingness to conduct a further probe on the death of Saswathikananda is suspicious, he said. A further probe was conducted on the basis of new revelations in many cases after this government came to power. However, the government has taken a stand against the probe. Chief Minister’s silence is meaningful in it.

Swamy died during the tenure of the then chief minister A K Antony.  The LDF Government which came later conducted a crime branch probe. The things which were not revealed then has been revealed now.

The CPM has no enmity towards SNDP. However, SNDP’s tie up with the RSS will be opposed as it is against the ideas of Sree Narayana Guru, he said.

Munnar: Widespread protests if solution not found, says Kodiyeri

MUNNAR: If no solution is found at the talks to be held tomorrow on the plantation workers strike in Munnar, then widespread protests would be staged across the state, said CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan.

Talking to reporters after visiting the protestors, he said the party supports the strike in Munnar. He also visited Devikulam MLA S Rajendran staging a hunger strike.

The CPM is ready to give their lives to achieve the demands of the workers. The workers are not alone in the strike. If a decision is not taken at the talks held tomorrow, then the party will take over the strike and protests would be staged all over the state, he said.

Meantime, the workers did not allow women leaders who accompanied Kodiyeri to the strike venue. Central committee members P K Sreemathi, M C Josephine accompanied Kodiyeri. The workers did not even allow the workers to talk first but later permitted them to talk.

CPM has not insulted Gurudevan, says Kodiyeri

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM has not insulted Sree Narayana Guru, said party state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. The allegation that the party insulted Guru is wrong, he said. This is only a false propaganda of the BJP. The CPM has always respected Guru. This allegation by the RSS is to cover the attack towards the statue of Guru at Peedika in Nangarath, he said.

Kodiyeri clarified the party’s version Monday in the wake of strong protests for presenting a tableau crucifying Sree Narayana Guru during a procession held as part of the culmination of Onam celebrations.

LDF’s political base not dented in Aruvikkara, says Kodiyeri

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The political base of the Left Front has not been dented in Aruvikkara, said CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. However, lapses occurred in focusing campaign against the BJP, he said at a press meet.

The UDF and the BJP joined hands to dent the political base of the LDF. The LDF obtained more votes than they attained in the assembly polls in Aruvikkara. The RSP was with the LDF last time and this time with the UDF. Still votes increased, he said.
