Accused in Paravur case remanded to custody

Saturday, January 14, 2012: Naushad, 83rd accused in the sensational Paravur sex scandal case, who had surrendered before the special investigation team earlier, has been remanded to custody on Saturday morning.
Naushad was remanded after he was presented before the Paravoor first class magistrate Court today. He was absconding and evading police arrest soon after the case came to light.
The police crime branch has filed a petition in the Paravur Magistrate Court seeking cancellation of the passport of 12 accused who are absconding arrest in connection with the case.
Meanwhile the chargesheet in the Paravur sex scandal case, in which a 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by at least 100 odd men over a period of time, was filed against the father of the victim.
The police crime branch, which investigated the case, filed charge sheet against first accused Sudheer, in the Parur First Class Magistrate Court.
Cases under section 376 (Rape) of IPC, section 25 of the Juvenile Justice Act and Immoral Traffic Prevention Act have been registered against Sudheer. Ninety-four accused have been arrested in the case so far, of whom one died recently.
The case came to light in June last after the girl from Paravoor complained to her aunt about her plight and she lodged a police complaint.
In her complaint, the girl had said her father, who used to do small roles in Malayalam films, was the first to rape her. He then took her to various places and ‘offered’ her to at least 100 men.
Businessmen, a retired Naval official and a PWD contractor from Tamil Nadu are among the accused in the case.
