Chandy has no right to continue as CM, says VS

THRISSUR: Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan Sunday said Oommen Chandy has no right to continue as Chief Minister as he allegedly protected I G Tomin Thachankary, who allegedly met terror groups during his foreign trip.

Demanding sacking of IG Tomin Thachankary, who is at present the Marketfed MD, VS said now the Union Home Ministry sought disciplinary action against the IG for his controversial foreign trip and his meeting with people having terror links.

Talking to newspersons here, the CPI (M) veteran and former chief minister said Chandy was protecting the IG, who is an anti-national, by appointing him as the Marketfed MD. Alleging that the NIA report was interpreted for the convenience of the IG by the Chief Minister, he said Chandy has no right to continue as the Chief Minister.

Earlier, the Union Home Ministry has recommended the state government to initiate action against the IG over his Gulf trip without government's consent. During the investigation the NIA had found that the former Kannur IG met certain people having terror links during his Qatar visit on 2010. The trip was without the consent of the previous LDF government, violating the service rules. The IG was also placed under suspension for the last one-year in connection with the foreign visit.
