Major fire breaks out in Malappuram, 10 shops gutted

Monday, 02 January 2012: As many as ten shops were gutted in a major fire that broke out at Valanchery in Malappuram district on Monday morning. The fire was first noticed by local residents and they immediately informed the matter to the near by fire station.
Hotel, cool bar, union office, cement shop, cycle shop, were located in the building. It is reported that a short circuit that occurred at a near by cool bar triggered the fire, source said.
Fire and Rescue Service personnel from three stations at Thirur, Ponnani, and Malappuram brought the fire under control after three hours, fire brigade officials said.
