Road works in State to be reviewed tomorrow

 Monday, January 2, 2012: Public Works Minister VK Ibrahim Kunju had said that the repair work of national highways and PWD roads have been completed.
A review of the State-level programme would be held here on January 3, Minister said. In addition to the budget outlay of Rs 470 crore, an expenditure of Rs 314.5 crore has been incurred for the work.
The road surface maintenance work will be completed by May. A total of Rs 157.96 crore has been allotted to the five corporations for road maintenance work which will be completed by May.
An amount of Rs 63.6 crore has been spent on repair of Sabarimala roads. A pilgrim centre will be constructed at Ranni. It is expected to cost Rs 11 crore. The e-tendering facility, already in force, will be extended to more areas.
He said sanction has been given for road works worth Rs 1,308 crore in the State. The government has initiated procedures to upgrade 8,570 km of roads before these roads are taken over by the Public Works department.
