Tomin Thachankary must be sacked, says VS

Sunday, January 08, 2012: Opposition leader VS Achuthanandan today opined that senior Kerala IPS officer and Market Fed MD, Tomin J. Thachankary must be terminated from service based on Home Ministry’s recommendation to initiate action against him in connection with the controversial foreign trip.
During the investigation the NIA had found that Thachankary had met certain people having terror links during his Qatar visit on 2010. The Centre has forwarded a letter to the Chief secretary recommending stringent action against Thachankary.
Thachankary was placed under suspension for the last one year on the charge that he made a foreign trip without the consent of the previous government when he was Kannur IGP. He was later reinstated back into service by the UDF government recently.
Thachankary ran into trouble after the Indian Ambassador in Qatar complained of the foreign trip made by him. The Ambassador gave a formal complaint to the union Home ministry accusing Thachankary of having talks with terror groups while staying in Qatar.
