Formation of company for KSEB inevitable: CM

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Friday said that the government would take the employees into confidence but would continue with the process of converting KSEB into a company as it had no other way out.

Addressing a meeting of the KSEB Employees Union representatives here, Chandy said that the government had the approach of protecting the rights of employees. But on the issue of power it has to take certain decisions.

It was the previous LDF Government which mooted the corporatisation of KSEB  despite its earnest efforts to retain it as KSEB.

But it had no other option but to make it a company as other states collectively decided to form  companies in the power sector in their states.

He said the incumbent government had no choice of going back on the previous government’s decision. The rights and privileges of the existing employees would be protected.

But certain new decisions would be taken for the new entrants to the service, he said.

Chandy said that the Power Minister was asked to present a detailed report on increasing the efficiency of the KSEB as well as increasing  production and present it during the special cabinet meet scheduled on August 9.
