Gopal Subramanyam appointed Amicus Curiae

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court Thursday appointed senior advocate and former solicitor general Gopal Subramanyam as amicus curiae in connection with the inventory of Padmanabhaswamy Temple. His name was suggested by the state government.

Senior advocate K K Venugopal who appeared for the royal family suggested another name, but Gopal was appointed after long discussions.

The court criticised the government for raising complaints against the members of the experts' committee constituted by them for inventorying and scientifically documenting the priceless treasures found in the vaults of the temple. The court said action will be taken for contempt of court if tried to disrupt documenting. If there are complaints against the members, it should be informed to the court.

The court opined that it is the court that has to take a decision and not the government. The officials will not be allowed to play politics.
