Lovers commit suicide

KANNUR: The bodies of a 21-year-old- youth and a 17-year-old girl who was Class XII student, were found hanging from the iron rod of a well at Chuzhali near Sreekandapuram in the early hours of Monday. It was suspected they decided to end their life due to the opposition from their families to their love. The boy was a dalit and the girl belonged to Thiyya Community.

The dead were identified as Sreejil (21) and Shyamili (17) Kunhikanan of Chuzhali and Nediyanga respectively near Sreekandapuram. Police said the families disclosed that both of them were in their respective houses till around 1130 hrs. It was suspected they took the extreme step after midnight when everyone was asleep. Police sent the bodies to Pariyaram Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.
