UDF to hold meeting on Nelliyampathy issue today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Having failed to find a political solution to the Nelliyampathy issue, the UDF leaders will hold a crucial meeting today at Cliff House here around 3.30 pm even as political analysts say that solution is remote.

Adding fuel to the present situation, the Kerala Congress (M), an important constituent of UDF, has articulated that the farmers at Cherunelli in Nelliyampathy (Palakkad district) could not be categorized as encroachers.

Also, there is the “green politics” put forward by young MLAs under the leadership of V.D. Satheesan and T.N. Prathapan. The green politics has won praises from all the political corners as well.

The young Congress leaders have demanded that approximately 6,000 acres of Nelliyampathy forest land, of which Cherunelli is a part, should be taken back in its entirety by the forest department.

Young state MLAs from the Congress have revolted against the state government’s handling of the land issue in Nelliyampathy,  and they and senior leaders have separately met national leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, the general secretary in charge of the youth and student wings, to discuss the matter.

As of now, Congress leaders cannot reject the views of the advocates of “green politics”.
