NEDUMBASSERY: Five kilograms of gold was seized from Kochi International Airport. The gold was noticed under the seat during an inspection on the Jet Airways before proceeding to Chennai. An investigation conducted arrested Habeer, native of Tamil Nadu, and is questioning him.
The flight from Sharjah landed at the airport at 5.45 am Wednesday morning. On investigation it has been noticed that the gold concealed under the seat was brought to take it to Chennai. It was easy to smuggle the stuff as the customs authorities are not checking passengers properly at the international airport.
Dr Anil, customs deputy commissioner, revealed that the gold is worth Rs 1.5 crores. Many passengers proceeding to Chennai are suspected to be involved in the incident.
