I was ousted from UDF for talking about Palarivattom corruption: Ganesh Kumar makes shocking revelation

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: K B Ganesh Kumar MLA has come out with a startling revelation that he had to leave the UDF as he talked about corruption including that in the case of Palarivattom bridge.

“With all proofs, I had complained to then chief minister Oommen chandy but what I had to face was humiliation and finally, I had to leave the UDF. In the State, there is a caucus of officials and contractors who have no qualms in going the corrupt way,” he revealed.

The above revelation has come out following the finding of experts’ team from Madras IIT that sufficient proportion of cement was not used in the construction.

“No corruption would have happened without the knowledge of the then Public Works minister Ibrahim Kunju. The corruption has also happened in other Public works projects during the time of former UDF government. All such projects should be probed. Palarivattom is just the tip of the iceberg,” he said.

The foundation stone of Palarivattom Bridge was laid in 2014 during the period of Oommen Chandy government. The plan was to spent Rs 72 crore and complete the project in two years. The construction was completed and opened to transport in October 2016, when the Pinarayi government was in power.

The construction cost of the flyover was Rs 41.27 cr. Out of this, only Rs 34 cr was given to contractors. The rest amount was not given as there was defect in the construction. The contract had been given to RDS Construction Company. In order to do away with the toll collection, the State government then avoided National Highway Authority and gave the contract to Kerala Bridges and Corporation. It was they who, later, gave the contract to RDS.
