KANNUR: Anthoor Municipality chairperson P K Shyamala has said the municipality had no role in the suicide of an NRI in Anthoor.
“The file related to Parayil Sajan’s house came before the secretary only by May end and his unfortunate death happened during that time,” she said at a press conference on Wednesday.
“Matters related to the sanction for the building were handled by municipality officers and no complaints from Sajan had reached the table of people’s representatives. The delay in issuing ownership certificate was a natural official process as per the law. The allegation that the municipality had harassed Sajan is baseless,” she said.
Shyamala said that the plan for the construction of his convention centre was passed earlier from Thalipparambu Municipality. But the construction was started later after Anthoor municipality came into existence.
“In between, we got a complaint about his building and the work had to be stopped after we sent him the notice. Later, all this issues were resolved and the work was restarted,” she said.
“Sajan had submitted the application for the completion certificate on April 12. Some defects were spotted and suggestions were made for rectifying it. In the meanime, wedding happened in the Convention centre on April 20 and May 20.
I also attended a wedding there. In the coming days also, wedding are scheduled to happen. The Municipality has not blocked anyone of this marriages. The municipality has no vengeance against him,” she explained.
