Periya Case: HC slams Prosecution

KOCHI: Kerala High Court has come down heavily on the prosecution over its handling of Periya murder case in which two Youth Congress workers were hacked to death.
The court’s criticism came when it was considering the bail plea of the accused. When the prosecution requested the court for delaying the consideration of the bail pleas, it clarified that the request could not be granted. “The consideration of bail plea cannot be extended in the name of unnecessary reasons. If the prosecution has any grievance, it should approach the Supreme Court,” the court said.
Meanwhile, the court also criticised the government and the police for shoddy handling of bail pleas.

“It has to be doubted whether certain people in Director General Office have secret agendas. The police officials failed to feed the prosecutor with inputs regarding the case. The DGP office didn’t give timely instructions related to the case. This is utter dereliction of duty.

Either the DGP or ADGP should appear in the court today itself. If this state continues, we shall have to summon the chief secretary,” the court said.
