KOCHI: The Kerala High Court Monday revoked Assembly Speaker N Shakthan's order disqualifying former Chief Whip and Poonjar MLA P C George, under the anti-defection law.
While passing the order, court, however, said the Speaker could legally re-examine the disqualifying act.
Observing that Shakthan could have heard George's version before initiating action against him, the court pointed out that it was a lapse on his part.
It may be recalled that George was disqualified by the Speaker under anti-defection law, on the basis of a petition filed by Kerala Congress (M) leader and government chief whip Thomas Unniyadan for his alleged anti-party activities on July 21 last.
However, George resigned the day before he was disqualified. However, he approached the Kerala High Court challenging the proceedings initiated by Shakthan to disqualify him.
Reacting to the court order favouring him, George said, ''God is great. At last the truth succeeded."
