Pempilai Orumai candidate in Devikulam

KOCHI: Pempilai Orumai representatives have informed that they will field their candidate from Devikulam. A woman labourer will be the candidate but the candidate is yet to be decided.

“There is also demand from labourers to field a candidate from Peerumedu but a final decision is not made on that. We shall not go after any political party for support but will accept all parties’ help,” the organisation leader Lisy Sunny said on Thursday.

The members said they had received the registration for their organisation as per Trade Union Act. Pempilai Orumai’s policy declaration meeting would be held at 11 on Sunday at Munnar ground.

When asked why Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan, who had sat with Penpilai Orumai strikers in pandal during their strike, was not invited for the event, the leaders said, “VS had attended the strike not because of his affection towards labourers but to prevent the disintegration of his party”.
