KOCHI: During the UDF rule in Kerala over the last five years, lottery king Santiago Martin had never visited Kerala, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said. “But during the LDF tenure Santiago Marin was synonymous with lottery business in Kerala. Crores of rupees was looted from Kerala,” said the chief minister after inaugurating the UDF district convention at A J hall on Tuesday.
“After coming to power, the UDF disbursed among poor diseased persons Rs 1200 crore earned from the sale of lotteries. Now we have also started Sthree Shakthi lottery for the welfare and progress of women folks. If that will benefit the people, we shall move forward with it, mindless of any opposition. If controversies are created over a project, we shall not leave it in the midway. When we were about to implement the Vizhinjam project, many tried to impede it by creating controversies. In the case of national games also the same thing happened. Now when the auditing was completed, Kerala was hailed for conducting the games at minimum expenditure,” he said.
Kerala Congress leader K M Mani said, “Not by lining up people but by lining up bar owners had the Opposition tried to torpedo the government”. The secret meeting between CPM State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and a bar owner shows this. The UDF government was also able to achieve 7.3 economic growth for Kerala.
