KOLENCHERRY: A fire that broke out at a plywood company in Kummanod near Pattimattom in Ernakulam has been engulfed in flames. Goods worth lakh have been destroyed. The company, boiler including the stocking yard at the Kemi Plywood Company located in four cents at Kummanod have been completely gutted in the fire. The fire broke early Wednesday morning at 4.45 am. Employees staying in the quarters adjacent to the company saw the fire first. They soon informed the fire force at Pattimattom. Though a fire engine from the unit having a single vehicle reached the spot, they were not able to douse the fire.
A major tragedy was averted after fire engines from Aluva, Moovattupuzha and Perumbavoor controlled the fire. Initial reports say short circuit from the boiling unit may have caused the fire.
