THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KSEB in a meeting convened to discuss load shedding decided that there will not be electricity restrictions in the state till July 15.
Another meeting will be convened on July 15 which will discuss imposing restrictions on power usage. Kerala gets 64 million units of electricity from central generating stations and private power stations. Among them, all except two produce electricity using coal. Load shedding will be needed only if electricity from these stations are not provided to Kerala.
"This situation happens every year and domestic production is increased to counter this situation. However, at present, it is impossible to increase domestic power production”, KSEB chairman N. S. Pillai said.
Meanwhile, electricity charges will be increased from next week. The electricity regulatory commission has decided to increase the charges for residential users by 10 percent.
