Emerging Kerala: State keen on green technologies

Emerging Kerala 2012 Global Connect will reinforce the vision of sustainable development and environment-friendly technologies for long-term development in the state.


Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty said that it will be ensured that industrial and economic development does not come at the expense of environment. The government’s decision to choose non-polluting and eco-friendly industries as engines of growth is a demonstration of this commitment.


 Out of the 26 areas that will be showcased to global delegates at Emerging Kerala as offering potential for growth and investment, the core sectors include IT and IT-enabled services, Tourism and Medical Tourism, Health care services, Food and Agro Processing, Knowledge and Education, Green Energy, Biotechnology and Nanotechnology.



‘’Balancing environment concerns and developmental needs is one of the biggest challenges for nations across the world. We want to demonstrate that it can be done very successfully,’’ said Additional Chief Secretary (Industries) V Somasundaran.


‘’Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram is home to some of the country’s most innovative businesses, R&D centres and incubators.  More importantly, it is one of greenest IT parks in the world - and we intend to replicate this across the state,’’ he said.


 ‘’We are well aware of our limitations in terms of land and other resources, and this is factored right at the planning stage. For instance, our mega transport projects such as the Kochi Metro, Monorail, High Speed Rail have all been conceived in such a way that the land requirements are kept to the barest minimum,’’ Industries Secretary Alkesh Sharma said.


 Emerging Kerala 2012, which is scheduled  in Kochi from September 12-14, is expected to present not just investment and business networking opportunities but also help crystallise ideas for long-term growth consistent with the government’s vision for  sustainable social and economic advancement, he added.
