League leaders to visit Madhani

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Muslim League leaders will visit PDP chairman Abdul Nasser Madhani, jailed in Karnataka in the Bangalore blasts case.

A team led by League general secretary KPA Majeed and E T Muhammed Basheer will reach Bangalore on Wednesday. The team will hold talks with Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar.

The team will request Shettar to provide better treatment for the jailed PDP leader.

Muslim League, the second largest partner of the ruling Congress-led UDF in Kerala, has been pressing for ensuring proper medical care to Madani, suffering from various ailments.

Members of both UDF and CPI-M headed LDF opposition had raised the issue of Madani in the recently concluded state Assembly session.

Madani, arrested from Kerala on August 17, 2010, has been lodged in the Parappana Agrahara jail in Bangalore since then. He is among 31 people chargesheeted in the case relating to the July 2008 blasts in Bangalore, leaving one killed and 20 others injured in the incident.

The Karnataka High Court had last month rejected his bail plea but permitted him to avail treatment in hospital of his choice under police escort.
