KOZHIKODE: A main accused in the hawala case reviewed the things in connection with the bail plea of Salim Raj, former gunman of the chief minister, remanded for the abduction bid of a youth in Kozhikode.
Sona Abdul Majeed, a native of Kozhikode and the main accused in delivering hawala money worth Rs 336 crores to the country in 2006, was seen holding talks with the advocates of Salim in the court premises. With this, it is suspected that Salim Raj has close links with hawala racket.
Majeed was present in the Kozhikode Judicial First Class Magistrate Court when the bail plea of Salim Raj was considered. He held talks with Salim’s advocate Shaheer Singh. Salim’s relatives were also seen in the court.
Majeed obtained the name Sona for his gold smuggling business. The income tax tribunal in Kochi had imposed a fine of Rs 200 cores on him in the hawala case last week. Not only that the customs enforcement had even registered many cases against him.
