Director Mohan Roop found dead

THRISSUR: Director Mohan Roop was found dead at Thrissur Mission Quarters on Tuesday morning. He was 53. His main film is Vettah starring Mohanlal, Mammootty and Sreenivasan.

Mohan, born in Varkala, was staying in Thrissur. His main films include Evare Sookshikkukka (1986), Varshangal Poyathariyathe (1987), Shilpi (1988), Excuse Me, Ethu Collegila (1991), Sparsham (1998), Kankal Ariyamal (2010), Thoothuvan (2011) etc. He has won Dr Ambedkar’s national award of Bharathiya Lalithakala Academy.

Mohan who introduced music director (late) Rajamani and noted cinematographer Salu George to Malayalam films through his second film Nulli Novikkathe. Kalabhavan Mani and Prem Kumar were noticed after acting in Mohan’s Excuse Me, Ethu Collegila. It was Mohan who directed Sparsham, which saw the return of director Siddique.

He has directed more than 100 short films, documentaries, music albums and ad films. He leaves behind his wife Preetha and children Mrinal and Nila.
